Weight system

If you are an experienced scuba diver or have the desire to try the activity for the first time, it is important for you to have the right equipment in order to have a safe and fulfilling experience. One of the most important things to have while scuba diving is a weight system that allows you to safely descend to greater depths beneath the water.

Weight System Styles

You will want to select a style suitable for your scuba diving goals. Here is a closer at two of the most popular weight system styles:

Weight Belt andndash; This classic weight system is simple in its design and is easy to carry. Most weight belts are made out of nylon or other type of durable fabric and feature lead weights that have been threaded into the belt. Weight belts are particularly ideal when diving in warm water.

Integrated Weights andndash; If you would prefer to have a weight system that is already built into your buoyancy control device, this option is the perfect choice for you. Even though integrated weights can make your scuba gear a bit heavier when you try to move around before and after your dive, this system eliminates the hassle of having to carry around an extra piece of equipment.

Choosing the Right Weight System

There are a few important things you should look for in a weight system. Some of the key factors you should be aware of when choosing a weight system include:

Quick Release Capability andndash; You will want to make sure that you are choosing a weight system that allows you to quickly release weight so that you can float if necessary. The best weight systems will allow you to use just one hand and one motion to release the weight.
Sturdy Buckles andndash; All buckles on your weight system should be highly durable in order to hold each weight. Weak buckles may come undone and release weights when you don’t want them to.

Comfort andndash; Your weight system should be able to do its job while still being comfortable enough for you to wear. You don’t want to get a weight system that greatly limits your movement or causes you pain.

Appropriate Weight andndash; One of the best aspects of most weight systems is the fact that you can easily adjust the weight to fit your needs. The appropriate weight will largely depend on your body type and how deep you wish to descend. Your weight system should allow you to gradually descend beneath the water without sinking. You may need to eliminate some of the weights in your system if you find that you are descending too rapidly beneath the water. Conversely, you will need to add extra weights to your system if you feel that you are still floating when you get into the water.

A reliable weight system is an integral part to scuba diving. Keeping the aforementioned tips in mind can help you choose a weight system that will work best for you.
